West Brom midfielder Okay Yokuslu received praise from journalist Joe Chapman after the Baggies beat Sheffield United 1-0 in the EFL Cup first round.
The Lowdown: West Brom into round two
Steve Bruce’s side hosted the Blades on Thursday evening, in what represented a potentially tricky EFL Cup tie on paper against their Championship rivals.
West Brom passed with flying colours, however, eventually edging a tight game at the Hawthorns after Karlan Grant buried a second-half winner.
It may not necessarily have been a classic match-up between the pair but someone whose performance caught the eye was Yokuslu, with the Turk enjoying an impressive 91% pass completion rate and only losing possession four times, according to Sofascore.
The Latest: Chapman praises Yokuslu
Taking to Twitter after the game, Chapman described the 28-year-old in two simple words:
“Okay classy.”
The Verdict: Massive signing for Baggies
The return of Yokuslu has been a huge positive for West Brom this summer, considering the impact he made during his first spell at the club, winning an average of 2.6 aerial duels and 2.4 tackles per game in the Premier League.
Thursday’s display once again outlined the influence that he has in the middle of the park and he is likely to play a key role in the Baggies’ Championship promotion push.
Yokuslu has been hailed as ‘excellent’ by journalist Adrian Goldberg in the past, and at 28, there is no reason why West Brom can’t enjoy several more good years of service.
